Fighting Winter Weight Gain

During the Spring, Fall and Summer months, pets usually get a lot more exercise because the weather is warmer outside.  However, when the Winter season kicks in, pets cannot spend as much time outside and may gain weight due to lack of exercise.

Believe it or not, one way pet owners can combat Winter weight, especially owners of dogs, is buy training their pets to walk on a treadmill.  Dogs tend to respond well to machines which are going at a slow rate of speed and while they have the supervision of their owners.

One vet said, "It's something that may seem crazy to people, but something that dogs really will do."

The same vet also encourages owners to play with their pets indoors.  Games like fetch or purchasing new toys to keep animals active during long, Winter months are always a great idea and can combat weight gain amongst cats and dogs.
