Halloween Safety Tips for Your Furry Monsters

If you have pets, you'll want to be extra careful during the holidays, especially Halloween.  This is a time when you have decorations inside and outside and also have trick-or-treaters coming to your home.  So, you'll want to be extra cautious as far as your pets are concerned to prevent any accidents or harm.  Below are some practical Halloween safety tips for cats and dogs:

  • Try to keep holiday decorations away from your pets.  This includes carved pumpkins and decorations/props with electrical cords.  Your pets may be tempted to play with your Halloween decorations and that can cause them harm.
  • You may want to put your cat or dog in a separate room during trick-or-treat time.  The constant doorbell ringing, opening and closing of doors, and strangers can make your pet feel anxious.  It's important to keep your pet calm so they aren't scared.
  • Finally, make sure that your pets have proper ID tags.  If you're opening the door for a trick-or-treater and your pet manages to sneak out, you want to make sure that it can be identified and returned home to you.  Proper pet tags should have your pet's name, your home address, and your phone number.
